Halloween and bonfire night safety advice |
||
Dear Resident
You are receiving this message as a general reminder around the celebrations of Halloween and Bonfire night and what constitutes acceptable behaviour at this time of year. Between October and November each year there is an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour due to people getting carried away and not respecting their neighbours, so we are asking people to remember that this time of year is not enjoyed by everyone and to allow others to live a peaceful life.
Trick or treat – Please do not knock on houses displaying signs saying no trick or treating. Not everyone is willing or able to take part in this voluntary tradition, they are allowed to opt out of taking part. There is a poster attached for you to print and display. ‘Tricks’ are meant to be harmless pranks which cause no alarm, distress, or damage. No one should be left frightened or upset by your actions.
Bonfire Night – Fires and fireworks cause thousands of injuries in the UK each year. Uncontrolled fires can spread extremely quickly and endanger lives.
For bonfire safety advice go to: www.northantsfire.gov.uk/bonfires-and-fireworks/ Fireworks (category 2 & 3) can only be bought, carried, or used by over 18s, cannot be set off after 11pm (midnight on 5th November), and it is an offence to set off fireworks in the street or any other public space.
Please remember to respect your neighbours and other residents during this time and enjoy the celebrations responsibly.
